The Art of Black Out Poetry: FREE Community Event

The Art of Black Out Poetry: FREE Community Event
Friday May 8th 10:30am-11:30am FREE
Discover the poem hidden within the page. Join us for a relaxing, community-focused workshop where we turn the old into the new. Blackout poetry is a fascinating form of “found art” where you take an existing page of text—like an old book or newspaper—and mask the words you don’t want, leaving behind a completely original poem. It’s not just about writing; it’s about revealing the message that was already there.
We believe that creativity and wellness go hand-in-hand. To help you settle into your creative flow, we will begin the session with a guided meditation designed to clear the mind and ground your intentions. From there, you’ll dive into the rhythmic, meditative process of selecting words and “blacking out” the rest with ink, markers, or even decorative patterns.
All are welcome! From seasoned artists to those who haven’t picked up a pen in years. All supplies provided. Come as you are, and leave with a piece of your own poetic soul.
Guest Instructor , Isabella Smarro is a recent graduate with a theater and fine arts degree. She has been writing poetry, art journaling, and crafting for years and is looking forward to creating a space for people to connect & create in community.
